First off, what year? Older Savages do NOT have interchangeability
with the later models where the cylinder is concerned. As for increasing
displacement, I don't believe the cylinder can be honed or bored
without extremely specialized equipment. If memory serves, the lining
in this unit is not your standard cast-iron cylinder sleeve. A better bet
would be to deck the cylinder AND the head, thus increasing your
compression ratio. More compression=more power.
Also, take the head to a race shop and have the valves done. Stock
Suzuki valves don't flow worth a damn.
If you want to REALLY boost it, have your case re-drilled, use a .060 inch
overbore shovelhead or evo cylinder [HD]. This way, you'll get about
48 cubic inches displacement out of one cylinder. This route
will be very expensive, hard on the lower end of the motor,
and you can kiss reliability goodbye.
If you really want a more powerful ride, sell the Savage and buy
a 1400 Intruder. This is one of the fastest cruisers ever made.
